Course Overview

The NPORS Excavator 360° Training (N202) course provides comprehensive training for operators of wheeled and/or tracked 360° excavators, covering machines above and/or below 10 tonnes. Combining theoretical knowledge with practical application, this program ensures operators are fully equipped to handle excavators confidently, safely, and efficiently across varied terrains and work environments.

Whether you’re new to excavator operations or looking to refine your skills, this course prepares you to meet industry standards and excel in excavator use.

Course Objectives

By the end of this training, participants will:

  • Gain an understanding of the industry, its hazards, and the responsibilities of a plant operator.
  • Develop working knowledge of the manufacturer’s handbook for the specific excavator being used.
  • Identify major components of the excavator and explain their functions.
  • Locate and understand steering, driving, and braking controls.
  • Identify and maintain appropriate PPE for excavator use.
  • Conduct thorough pre-operational checks in compliance with manufacturer and legislative requirements.
  • Safely mount and dismount the machine.
  • Start and stop the engine, safely move the machine, and perform controlled stops.
  • Configure the excavator for travel and safely maneuver it across open and confined spaces, as well as varied terrain.
  • Conduct necessary safety checks at the worksite.
  • Position the excavator at the work area and prepare it for excavating tasks.
  • Perform excavating tasks effectively and safely.
  • Load materials onto transport vehicles or into containers.
  • Reinstate excavations, grade, and level ground.
  • Fit and remove attachments as required.
  • Carry out all end-of-shift and shutdown procedures properly.

Entry Requirements

  • For learners requiring the HS&E TESTED Logo on their NPORS card:
    • Must have passed the CITB Operatives Health, Safety, and Environment Test within the last 2 years.
  • Must possess a good understanding of spoken and written English.

Certification

Upon successful completion of the course, participants will receive an NPORS Operator Card.

  • If the HS&E TESTED Logo is required on the card, learners must fulfill the Entry Requirements outlined above.
