Course Overview
This course is designed for individuals who require the knowledge and practical skills to operate skid steer loaders safely and efficiently in a range of site environments.
Course Objectives
Participants will develop competency in the following areas:
  • Understanding the legal and safety responsibilities associated with skid steer loader operation
  • Identifying the main components, controls, and functions of skid steer loaders
  • Conducting pre-use checks, routine maintenance, and safety inspections in line with manufacturer and legislative requirements
  • Preparing the machine for work, including safe loading and unloading procedures
  • Operating the skid steer loader safely across different site conditions and terrains
  • Recognising and managing potential hazards associated with skid steer loader use
  • Using appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and ensuring correct fit and maintenance
  • Communicating effectively with site personnel and supervisors
  • Carrying out safe parking, shutdown, and post-use procedures
  • Understanding environmental considerations and responsible equipment use
Entry Requirements
  • For candidates applying for the NPORS CSCS Card, or those who require the ‘HS&E TESTED’ logo on their card, a valid CITB Operatives Health, Safety and Environment Test pass (within the last 2 years) is required.
  • Learners must have a good understanding of spoken and written English.
