Course Overview

The NPORS Industrial Counterbalanced Training course is designed to equip operators with the knowledge and practical skills required to safely and efficiently operate counterbalance forklifts in industrial settings. This training focuses on safety, precision, and compliance with industry regulations, ensuring operators are confident and capable in their roles.

Whether you’re new to forklift operations or looking to refine your expertise, this course provides a comprehensive foundation for safe and efficient machinery use.

Course Objectives

By the end of this training, participants will:

  • Understand the industry, associated dangers, and their responsibilities as plant operators.
  • Develop a working knowledge of the manufacturer’s handbook for the specific counterbalance forklift in use.
  • Identify the major components of the forklift and explain their functions.
  • Locate and explain the functions of steering, driving, and braking controls.
  • Conduct pre-operational checks in compliance with manufacturer and legislative requirements.
  • Safely mount and dismount the machine.
  • Start and stop the engine and safely move the forklift, including starting and stopping operations.
  • Configure the forklift for travel and manoeuvre it safely, both laden and unladen, in open and confined spaces.
  • Conduct necessary safety checks at the worksite.
  • Manoeuvre the forklift to the work area and prepare it for lifting and load handling tasks.
  • Perform lifting and load handling tasks safely and accurately across various locations.
  • Load and unload external transport vehicles safely.
  • Fit, adjust, or remove attachments as required.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of loading and unloading procedures for machine transportation.
  • Execute end-of-shift and shutdown procedures effectively.

Entry Requirements

  • For learners requiring the HS&E TESTED Logo on their NPORS card:
    • Must have passed the CITB Operatives Health, Safety, and Environment Test within the last 2 years.
  • Must possess a good understanding of spoken and written English.

Certification

Upon successful completion of the course, participants will receive an NPORS Operator Card.

  • If the HS&E TESTED Logo is required on the card, learners must fulfill the Entry Requirements outlined above.
  • The NPORS certification is highly regarded across the construction and industrial sectors, enhancing your employability and professional credentials.
