Participants will develop competency in the following areas:

- Understanding the legal and safety responsibilities of compact crane operation
- Identifying the main components and controls of compact cranes and understanding their functions
- Conducting pre-use checks, routine maintenance, and safety inspections in line with manufacturer and legislative requirements
- Interpreting lifting plans and selecting appropriate lifting accessories for various loads
- Operating the compact crane safely, including setting up, lifting, moving, and placing loads in different environments
- Recognising and managing potential hazards associated with compact crane use
- Communicating effectively with the lifting team, including slinger/signallers and supervisors
- Using appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and ensuring correct fit and maintenance
- Carrying out safe parking, shutdown, and post-use procedures
- Understanding environmental considerations and responsible equipment use
Entry Requirements
- For candidates applying for the NPORS CSCS Card, or those who require the ‘HS&E TESTED’ logo on their card, a valid CITB Operatives Health, Safety and Environment Test pass (within the last 2 years) is required.
- Learners must have a good understanding of spoken and written English.
